This book covers modern philosophy, starting from Descartes. It was getting harder as I read it through, especially the German philosophy part. After all, I could grasp the brief history of the western philosophy.
After all, what is core of the philosophy? The author said what matters most in philosophy is problem set-up. And I could agree with it after I read this book because I could see philosophers tried to refute the existing thesis by setting up questions with different perspective. Having or discovering different perspective – it matters, and it requires thorough thinking ability and creativeness. It is more important than memorizing opinions of various philosophers.
From a practical point of view I think it is surely enough to apply the 'philosophical mind' to my personal environment such as actuarial field or investing.
