(2022_20) One Speck of Truth - Caela Carter

 

It is a growth story of Alma. She has known that her father, Jorge, was dead until her age of twelve. But she got to know that her father was not dead, but alive in Portugal (He is Portuguese). He and her mother, Mercy, fell in love when they were early 20s in Portugal and had Alma. Mercy had to stop study and came back to the States. Jorge promised to go there with her, but finally he didn't. It seemed he didn't want to be her husband. Instead of telling the truth, Mercy just told Alma that her father was dead. I thought it is a big mistake as a mother. I believe she should have told the truth. That's the way to respect her daughter as a person. Anyhow, the story ends happily. Alma's stepfather, Adam, finally became her de facto father, and her best friend Julie became her cousin.

Be not an irresponsible father like Jorge!
